| the interviews are very Brianish but i don't like him talking about quads again. it's stupid from him to reveal his plans and strategies....we know Chan _________________ ...We're all susceptible to it, the dread and anxiety of not knowing what's coming. Just whatever you do,stop worrying. Because the only cure for paranoia is to be here, just as you are.

| It's too early to predict the amount of quads, that Brian is going to make at Olys...I guess,it's kind of image which Brian follows;)Look at Plushenko,he did his best and probably maximum at CoR 2009,even made a quad and 2 trixels at the gala in order to frighten the others, however he has withdrawn from SA and the next serious start for him will be only in january.Guys are just playing preOlys backstage games Certainly,it's Brian's dream to win Olys and to win it with 3 quads in the free and 1 quad in the short,but...sometimes to be reasonable and less risky makes perfect, sometimes not...,we'll see! _________________ |

| Finally I can express my thoughts on Brians victory!!! (Im really ill these day, but of course working, and I was very busy yesterday.) On Saturday I couldnt follow the competition, because I went to a football match to a foreign town and basically took all my day. I just ask Irina by sms how Brian finished and she let me know he was 1st but not a very high technical score. When I finally got to internet, I started to download the program and until then I read various message boards and I expected the usual Brian-bashing stuff, however, to my great surprise the people who dont like Brian admitted he looked so strong and confident on the ice that it took their attention!!!! I was just so happy to see it, because thats the Brian I love, the strong, the tough, the unbeatable. So I finally got to watch this performance and I absolutely LOVED it!!! This program is really great, really great, really great! I like all the possible jump layouts you presented here, lets hope Brian will find the most suitable one for the Olympics... He really needed this victory, not only for his confidence but also for sending a sign to the others: you can beat me once, but I will stand up and return stronger. And Im also in love with his exhibition... "Relax, take your time...." it could be his mantra before the quad... relax, take your time.... and then land a flawless quad... LOL... Btw, I dont know which commentator said (Ive downloaded many versions) about Brian "I bet his favourite place is in the air doing three revolutions" _________________ Titi Brian Joubert is my alcohol... | Lonnie - I had read what you say & then I read that the quads counted as a 'different' jump - because they have more revolutions (I've been hunting for the post on another board with a link - but cannot find it, sorry), so as long as Brian a) maximizes his jump content in the best way he can - I was certainly happy that he did three combinations in NHK!, b) does the best spins & step sequences he can - hopefully level 3-4! & c) has enough "inbetweens" to make the programme intertesting & flowing then I will be very happy.... Mary - I have no idea what jumps points totals v. transitions points totals work out at! Those sort of sums are totally beyond me, but I think good jumps are still the biggest 'bread-winner' in mens skating. It is all just fun speculation at the moment!!!!! _________________ ~Sheena~

At the present I don't have the time to research the points total, either, LOL, but I agree with you that good jumps are major bread-winners and, especially so, going into an Olympic season. Otherwise, why would skaters like Plushenko bother to do spectacular quads in his programs or pop them off one after another in pre-skate practices at the compeitions. Quads, regardless of how all the nay-sayers complain about them, are still the epitome of figure skating athletics. Both Brian and Plushenko have used their abilities to produce quads as though drawing a line in the sand to dare their other competitors to cross it. So, if the Weirs, Lysaceks, Lambiels, and Chans of the figure skating work want to compete at the Olympics they will have to produce consistent quads or be left swimming in ice chips at the feet of those who can produce quad after quad. The only time this ability, and the strategies for it are necessary, is in the Olympic year. The rest of the time competitors can get by without a quad or two, and still win medals in a non-Olympic year. The Olympics is a benchmark, as it should be, where the best of the best go up against each other and put themselves to the ultimate test, pushing the sport's envelope, and their personal athletic abilites and condition in the process. |

Found it - ISU Rule 520 Free Skating Singles:
"Of all the triple and quadruple jumps only two (2) can be repeated and these repetitions must be in either a jump-combination or in a jump sequence. Triple and quadruple jumps with the same name will be considered as two different jumps. A repeated triple or quadruple jump, not included into a jump combination or jump sequence, will be considered as a part of a not successfully executed jump sequence and counted as a jump sequence with only one jump executed."
So quads are different from triples, meaning one can have two 4Ts and two 3Ts in his program, but then he cannot repeat the 3A, or the 3Lz, since he has already repeated two other jumps.
It is worth noting that the limit on double Axles is 3, better than the rule for triples but still limited to avoid a ton of 2As. Personally, I wuold have limited them to 2, as well.

| Thanks Lonnie, that clarifies it! If a skater does three double axels, I believe one of them has to be in combination. Your potential jump layout on the previous page makes a lot of sense. _________________ ~Sheena~
